Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident: Three Killed in Head-On Fire Truck Accident Near Loon Lake

June 14, 2021 – Matt Albrecht

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident: Head-On Fire Truck Accident

According to a report from The Spokesman-Review, three people were pronounced dead after a tragic, devastating head-on collision on United States Highway 395, just outside of Loon Lake. A fire truck was involved in the accident. Here, our Spokane truck accident lawyers explain what we know about the collision and highlight the steps you should take if you are involved in a crash with an emergency vehicle.

A Head-On Collision Kills Three People in Eastern Washington

A spokesperson for the Washington State Patrol (WSP) reports that the head-on crash occurred around 4:25 PM on US 395, near the Grote Road intersection. A preliminary investigation of the accident suggests that a passenger vehicle crossed over the centerline of the highway and hit an oncoming Stevens County fire engine head-on. The crash was significant—the passenger vehicle burst into flames and was sent spiraling into a ditch on the side of the highway.

Tragically, three occupants of the car were killed in the accident. The Washington State Patrol is still investigating the collision. At this time, there was no indication as to what caused the passenger vehicle to cross over the centerline. Multiple Stevens County firefighters were also injured in the accident. However, none of their injuries were reported to be life-threatening and two firefighters were discharged from the hospital on the same day.

Emergency Vehicle May Be At Higher Risk for Accidents

In this case, the preliminary investigation indicates that the passenger car was responsible for the accident. However, that is not always the case in emergency vehicle accidents. In fact, there is some evidence to suggest that emergency vehicles, including fire trucks and ambulances, are at a somewhat higher risk of being involved in collisions. This is not surprising as these vehicles are tasked with quickly responding to emergency situations. Here are four steps to take if you are involved in a serious crash with a fire truck, ambulance, or other emergency vehicle:

  1. Stop your vehicle, report the accident, and exchange basic information;
  2. Get professional medical attention for any injuries;
  3. Document the crash—taking photographs and getting witness contact details; and
  4. Consult with an experienced motor vehicle accident lawyer.

You have the right to file a personal injury claim after an accident with an emergency vehicle. Even in emergencies, these vehicles still owe some duties to the public. A skilled motor vehicle accident injury lawyer will review your crash and help you take the appropriate steps to maximize your financial support.
