Man Killed After Running Into Traffic Following Crash on I-90 Near Sullivan Exit

Spokane, WA (June 28,2026) – A person died after stepping into oncoming traffic on Interstate 90 following a single-vehicle crash, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Authorities said the incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Thursday when a man traveling eastbound on I-90 struck a pole and pulled over to the shoulder to assess the damage. WSP Sgt. Greg Riddell reported that several bystanders stopped to assist, and traffic was able to continue in the adjacent lane.
Investigators said that shortly after the crash, the man ran from the shoulder into the other lane of traffic and into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. He was struck and killed at the scene.
The crash occurred near the Sullivan exit, which was blocked for several hours as crews responded and investigated. The roadway has since been reopened, according to a WSP news release. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner at a later time.
