High-Speed Spokane Valley Collision Leaves One Dead, One Injured

Spokane Valley, WA (July 22, 2026)– A man was killed and a woman suffered serious injuries following a high-speed single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Spokane Valley that split the vehicle in half, according to the Spokane Valley Police Department.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. on July 22 in the 13200 block of East Valleyway Avenue near McDonald Road. Preliminary findings indicate the driver of a car was traveling eastbound at an extremely high rate of speed when the vehicle bottomed out, causing the driver to lose control.

Investigators said the Volvo spun across the roadway before striking a large boulder, rolling over, and crashing into a tree. The impact was so severe that the vehicle split into two pieces and the engine was completely separated from the front of the car.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported by emergency medical personnel to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not publicly released the identities of those involved pending notification of their families.

According to investigators, reckless driving and excessive speed are believed to have contributed to the crash. Officials said it has not yet been determined whether impairment played a role. The Spokane Valley Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

The roadway was temporarily closed while deputies, firefighters, and investigators processed the scene and cleared the wreckage. Motorists experienced delays in the area during the investigation.
