Deadly Motorcycle Crash at N. Wood Road and W. Jacobs Road in Spokane County

Spokane County, WA (August 12, 2026) – A fatal motorcycle crash involving a moose is under investigation at the intersection of N. Wood Road and W. Jacobs Road in West Spokane County, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred on August 9, 2026, shortly before 8 a.m., when Spokane County deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on N. Wood Road near W. Jacobs Road.

The initial caller reported that a motorcycle appeared to have struck a moose and crashed. The caller also reported that the rider was not breathing and appeared to be deceased.

Firefighters from Spokane County Fire District 10 and District 5 responded to the scene. Despite efforts by first responders, the male motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies interviewed the caller and began investigating the crash before the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit took over the investigation. Traffic Unit investigators processed the scene and collected evidence related to the collision.

Initial information indicates that the motorcycle had been traveling south on N. Wood Road shortly after 1 a.m. when the rider attempted to avoid a moose that had entered the roadway.

Investigators said the rider applied the motorcycle’s brakes but was unable to avoid the animal and struck the moose. The motorcycle and rider continued southeast before coming to rest in grass off the roadway.

According to investigators, impairment was not a factor in the crash.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the deceased rider, along with the cause and manner of death, when appropriate.

The investigation remains active, and no additional information was immediately available.
