One Dead, Three Hospitalized in Crash Near Spokane International Airport

Spokane, WA (May 10, 2026) – One person died and three others were hospitalized with serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash Friday morning near Spokane International Airport.

According to the Spokane Police Department, the crash was reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. along Airport Drive between Spotted Road and Flint Road. Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle slammed into a pole under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided assistance to those involved. One person was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Three additional individuals suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Authorities stated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision. The department’s Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation, while the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the deceased victim at a later time.

Authorities closed the area surrounding Airport Drive for several hours while crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene. Traffic backups were reported in the area during the roadway shutdown.

Officials have previously identified the intersection at Airport Drive and Spotted Road as a long-standing safety concern. Airport officials have approved plans to replace the intersection with an interchange project that would carry Spotted Road over Airport Drive. The project is reportedly funded primarily through a $23 million federal grant.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.
