One Dead, Woman Critically Hurt in Spokane Valley High-Speed Car Crash

Spokane Valley, WA (June 24, 2026) – One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries after a high-speed crash split a vehicle in half early Friday morning in Spokane Valley.
According to the Spokane Valley Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. near the intersection of Valleyway Avenue and McDonald Road. Investigators said the driver of a Volvo S60 was traveling eastbound at an extremely high rate of speed when the vehicle bottomed out, causing the driver to lose control.
Police said the Volvo began spinning across the roadway before striking a boulder, rolling over, and crashing into a tree. The impact split the vehicle in half and completely dislodged the engine from the engine compartment. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was transported to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. Spokane Valley Fire Department crews also responded to assist at the scene.
Authorities believe both occupants were adults, although their identities have not yet been officially released. Investigators have not determined whether impairment was a factor in the crash. However, police said reckless driving and excessive speed are believed to have contributed to the collision.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Spokane Valley Police Department.
