Woman Fatally Struck After Collapsing in Roadway in Spokane Valley

Spokane Valley, WA (June 17, 2026) – A woman died after being struck by a vehicle in Spokane Valley after she collapsed while crossing a roadway late Wednesday night, according to preliminary information from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
According to officials, deputies responded to the area of East Sprague Avenue near McDonald Road around 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman lying in the roadway. When authorities arrived, they found the woman had already been struck by a passing vehicle after collapsing in the street.
First responders, including a Washington State Patrol trooper and nearby bystanders, attempted to administer CPR at the scene until firefighters arrived. Despite life-saving efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the location of the incident.
Investigators stated that the woman had nearly crossed Sprague Avenue when she suddenly collapsed onto the roadway. While westbound traffic attempted to avoid her, one vehicle was unable to do so and struck her. The driver involved was contacted at the scene and reportedly underwent a sobriety test before being released without arrest or charges.
Authorities have not yet determined why the woman collapsed in the roadway. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the official cause of death will be determined by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
