Spokane Valley Man Pronounced Dead After Horrific Head-on Collision

According to a report from The Spokesman-Review, a Spokane Valley man has passed away from the injuries he suffered in a recent head-on collision. The tragic car accident, which occurred just across the border in Kootenai County, Idaho, already took the life of another man who was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Local Law Enforcement: One Driver Crossed the Center Lane

The motor vehicle crash was initially reported to police around 8:00 PM on the evening of Saturday, January 23rd. Emergency first responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The head-on collision occurred near the intersection of West Seltice Way and Wellesley Avenue in the City of Post Falls, ID.

Upon arrival, authorities found that both of the heavily damaged vehicles were sitting in the eastbound lane on the divided road. Based on an initial investigation, the responding police officer believed that the vehicle driven by the Idaho man crossed the center lane and struck the oncoming vehicle being driven by the Spokane Valley man.

The specific trigger of the accident, meaning what caused the driver to cross into the wrong lane, is not currently known. The head-on collision is still under official investigation. Any person with information about the accident is encouraged to reach out to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency.

Head-On Collisions are Often Catastrophic

Few crashes are more dangerous than head-on collisions. Head-on wrecks are responsible for a disproportionate share of catastrophic injuries and highway fatalities. According to data provided by the Insurance Information Institute, head-on collisions account for nearly 11 percent of all fatal accidents reported in the United States. This despite the fact that less than 2 percent of all reported motor vehicle crashes are head-on collisions. These accidents happen for a wide range of different reasons, including:

  • Speeding;
  • Unsafe passing;
  • Failure to maintain lane integrity;
  • Distracted driving;
  • Fatigued driving (drowsy driving); and
  • Drugged driving/drunk driving.

All head-on collisions should be investigated by an experienced attorney. If you or your loved one was involved in a head-on crash—particularly if the other driver crossed over the dividing line—you need a lawyer who can gather and prepare all of the evidence needed to prove liability and put you in the best position to maximize your financial recovery. Compensation may be available for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other economic/non-economic damages.
